Electrical Services and Compliance Testing in Caulfield

Get Your Free Quote

Caulfield holds more premises with an obligation than most suburbs its size: a university campus, medical and allied health suites, schools, community buildings, aged care and the retail along Hawthorn and Balaclava Roads.

What those have in common is that somebody eventually asks to see the records. An insurer, an auditor, a building surveyor, a head office. And the awkward part is rarely the electrical work. It is that the last person to do the testing left no register behind, so nobody can prove any of it happened.

That is the part we take seriously here, and it costs nothing extra.

02 - Electrician in Caulfield

The Testing Is the Easy Part. The Register Is the Job

Every compliance obligation on a commercial premises has the same shape: do the thing, then be able to show you did it. In practice the second half is where buildings come unstuck.

We have walked into Caulfield sites where the appliances were tagged, the emergency lights worked and the RCDs tripped correctly, and none of it counted because there was no register. The testing had been done by three different contractors over six years and nobody had kept a list.

So we set up the register first and then work to it. Every appliance, every emergency fitting, every board, with what was tested, when, by whom and when it falls due again. You get a copy after every attendance, and it stays yours: if you change contractors, the register goes with you rather than with us.

01

The Register Comes First

Every asset listed before any testing starts, so the results have somewhere to live.

02

You Keep the Records

The register is yours. Change contractors and it goes with you.

03

Scheduled, Not Chased

We tell you when things fall due rather than waiting for someone to ask.

04

Findings Separated From Repairs

A failed item is reported and priced separately. Testing is not a sales channel.

03 - Compliance

Testing, Tagging and Emergency Lighting

Test and tag. In-service testing and inspection of portable appliances to the relevant Australian standard, with each item recorded rather than just stickered. The tag proves it to whoever is standing in front of it; the register proves it to everyone else.

Exit and emergency lighting. Periodic testing to the relevant standard, including the discharge test that most sites skip, and a logbook maintained on site. This is the one building surveyors ask about most often.

RCD testing. Push-button and trip-time testing on safety switches, which are two different tests and only one of them is the one people do.

Switchboard inspection. Thermal and visual checks on boards that run continuously, which is most commercial ones.

Our licensed electricians can help with

  • Safety switches & smoke alarms
  • Emergency electrical work
  • Electrical maintenance
  • Data cabling
  • Installation of power points
  • Electrical fault repair
  • Lighting solutions & ceiling fans
  • Switchboard upgrades

04 - Commercial

Commercial and Institutional Work in Caulfield

Beyond testing, the ordinary work on these premises: lighting design and replacement, additional power where equipment has moved, three phase where it is needed, data and comms cabling, and switchboard upgrades on buildings that have grown since their board was specified.

On a campus, a clinic or a school the constraint is almost never the work, it is when the building is empty. We schedule around teaching hours, consulting hours and shifts, and we say up front which parts have to happen out of hours.

05 - Homes

Electrical Work for Caulfield Homes

Residential Caulfield is period houses and a large number of flats, and the work follows the stock.

Switchboard upgrades with RCD protection across the circuits. Rewiring where the cable has aged out, staged so you keep power through it. Extra circuits for an induction cooktop, a heat pump or a car charger, with a check of what the mains will carry first. Smoke alarm compliance for rented properties, with the record kept, as on Malvern.

06 - What it costs

What It Costs in Caulfield

Testing is priced per item or per attendance depending on the site, and quoted against an asset count rather than an estimate, so the number does not move once we are on site. Anything that fails is reported and priced separately.

No call-out surprises

Quotes are free and there's no charge for coming out to look at the job. You'll know what it costs before you decide whether to go ahead.

08 - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can't see yours? Call us on 0433 577 910.

What areas do you service?

We provide service throughout Melbourne Bayside and surrounding suburbs.

Is there a difference between an electrician and electrical contractor?

An electrician is a worker in the electrical industry that has completed the relevant training and accreditation. Whilst an electrical contractor is a business that holds the appropriate insurances and licences to employ electricians to complete electrical work.

Are you insured?

Yes, all contractors are insured. We have public liability insurance and can provide documentation on request.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes we do. Contact us with your job details and we will either quote you over the phone or arrange a time to come and see you.

Why should I use a NECA accredited electrician?

A NECA accredited electrician is trained to work safely and to current Victorian standards, and NECA keeps that training current as the standards change. It also means the contractor is licensed and insured, and you can ask to see the documentation.

What is a Certificate of Electrical Safety?

It is the record that electrical work was done to the wiring rules. Your licensed electrician completes and signs it on finishing the work and lodges it with Energy Safe Victoria, which is the regulator rather than the issuer. You keep a copy. It is the document a buyer, insurer or property manager asks for later, so it is worth filing somewhere you will find it.

Are LEDs worth all the fuss?

They are, and the reason is heat. An incandescent globe turns most of the power it draws into heat rather than light, which is why it is too hot to touch. An LED puts far more of what it draws into light and runs cool, so it gives you the same brightness for a fraction of the electricity and lasts a great deal longer. Start with the lights you leave on longest, because that is where the difference shows up on a bill first.

How do I know which electrician to use?

Three things are worth checking. That they are licensed, and will give you the number so you can look it up. That the quote is in writing against an agreed scope, so you can compare one price with another instead of guessing. And that people in your own area have been happy with the work, which is what reviews are for.

Carda Electrics is locally owned and operated, our licence number is REC 26681, quotes are free and there is no charge for coming out to look at the job. The Google reviews are on this page for you to read before you call.
